1. I wrote my final for my second accounting class on Wednesday, and am now awaiting the results. (Last time it took about a week for the final grades to be posted.) I don't think I did as well as I have for previous tests -- I got hung up on something about halfway through that I couldn't work out, it rattled me, and I worked on it too long instead of moving on right away and coming back to it.
I did have time to come back to it at the end, and worked out part of what I'd done wrong, but that answer still isn't complete. I'll definitely pass, but I doubt I'll get a 95% like I did last time.
2. Kiva is hosting free trials again! If you're interested in microfinancing, but aren't ready to commit $25 to your first loan, this is a great opportunity to try Kiva out. Clink on the link to get an introduction to Kiva:

The funder of this particular free trial wishes to remain anonymous.
3. I've been writing so little it's ridiculous. Between school, volunteering, and work, I've been too tired and busy. Now that school is over for the summer, I'm going to try devoting some time to it. Start with some writing exercises, work up from there.
I have a number of stories that I've kind of started, or written down ideas for. One is way too silly and one I think is too challenging for me to handle well, but others might get finished.
4. I finally stopped waffling about whether to buy a New Revised Standard Bible or a New International Version, and bought one of each. Not the most urgent thing in the world, perhaps, but I've been meaning to get one of my own for quite awhile, and, as I say, have just been waffling. I was raised with New Revised Standard and am comfortable with it, but also feel that the New International Version is something I need and want to study.

At my current job I'm listening to my MP3 player through pretty much the entire 8-hour day. Because of this, I need new stuff to add to it.
So, name your favorite podcasts, please!

Kiva is having a free trial -- new lenders can make one free loan to a female borrower! The cost of the loan will be covered by the sponsor, and repayments will go to the sponsor.
http://www.kiva.org/
ETA: All the free trial loans have been claimed, but you can still loan to women, men, or groups at Kiva by following the link above!

If I'm reading you on Dreamwidth and you post the same content to both DW and LJ, I'm trimming you from my LJ flist, since I'd like to move over to DW as much as I can without losing contacts.
I always want to make new contacts on Dreamwidth, so if you've been thinking of subscribing to me, please do so! (And drop me a line!)

An LJ friend of mine runs a small animal shelter, and they very urgently need money to stay open! They need an additional 250 pounds by the end of this week to meet their goal of 900 pounds.
They are a no-kill shelter that helps small animals like rabbits, mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs. They have saved the lives of some extremely sick and badly injured animals.
Here's the latest post on the situation, listing ways you can help and links.
Their website is here.

I've been even quieter than usual for the past couple of months. I think I'm busier now than I've ever been. I'm taking an evening class, so that takes up 1 evening a week for class plus two or three evenings for homework. I've also been working full time since September, a nice change from earlier in the year when work was much more scarce.
I've been missing DS9 Rewatch chats for sleep and/or homework, but I hope to make it to more of them soon. (I made it to one of the chats for The Wire earlier this week; can't miss that one!)
This evening I wrote my midterm. I didn't get 100%, but I think I did okay. I'm hoping for about 80%.

I've made pork tongue a couple of times lately. The first time didn't go great, but this last time I improved my cooking technique a lot. I thought I'd share. :0) It's fiddly but rewarding, IMO.

I started a new temp job today (short-term) so of course last night at 2 am I got a really interesting story idea. :0/ I resisted the temptation to get up and start writing. (I started writing while waiting for the bus after work.)
It's a gen companion to Afterimage, and needs fact-checking to make sure it works with canon. Basically, Ezri consults with Julian about Garak's condition, and Julian helps her gain confidence and create a treatment plan for Garak by focusing on Ezri's training as a counselor rather than Dax's life experience.

I made this this evening! Modified from a fajita recipe in the internets. This will make a fair bit of food.

My sister and I made a quick appearance at the Pride thingy this afternoon, just after the parade. There was an Imperial Stormtrooper there! There was also a person dressed as a can of soup. The weather was lovely and there were a lot of people there.
I've been thinking for awhile that I should get back into the whole socializing thing. Jumping into it with Pride Week would have been a little too stressful, though, so maybe next week. :0)

Yesterday, as we were walking back from the Farmer's Market, my sister and I heard honking, and looked around for the source -- Batman was walking down the street! We wondered where he was going.
Today, my sister confirmed that he had been on his way to the Slut Walk! :0) I love Batman. <3

A cheapie meal tonight -- food is getting more expensive, and I'm not getting any richer! Starting to get a little bit alarming.
Tuna and Tomato Rice
1 can tuna, drained
half a tomato, chopped into chunks
pinch of red pepper flakes
a touch of garlic (I used 3 dried garlic flakes, crumbled)
2 TB vegetable oil
half cup rice
Combine everything but the rice and put it in the fridge. Cook the rice according to package directions. Combine the rice with the tuna/tomato mixture and serve.
It's actually really good. Satisfying and tasty!

Pick a paragraph (or any passage/story up to about 600 words) from anything I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.
See my stuff at my website or AO3.
